PInterest Success or Mess: the Rag Quilt

I had really been wanting to try a great sewing tutorial and my neighbor was having a baby so I decided to try the "rag quilt" since I have never made a quilt before.  My first try was not a success because I clipped into all of the stitches causing holes so I got some different fabric and started again.  The next quilt was a SUCCESS and I can't wait to give it to her.  Click here for the tutorial from "The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking."

Here are some pictures of my quilt.  The only thing I can say is "DO NOT CUT TOO FAR IN!"  I used some scissors that weren't that great with the first quilt but I borrowed some Fons and Porter scissors and they were amazing.  They have a short blade and are perfect for this.

This was the first try.  I really thought the fabric was great and this was a charm pack.  I did a flannel back on this one which is super easy.  I think I'm going to cut this one up and make some burp rags for her too.  This quilt was also very very small so I learned for the next quilt.

My final quilt all done.  I thought it was so fun.  My X's on each square weren't perfect so I need to learn a trick to make them better next time.  These squares were about 8 or 9 inches wide.

The owls are so fun!

Fold it up with some ribbon and you are done!

This was her quilt from the tutorial (very cute)  I love the pillow too!:

Greek Yogurt Peanut Butter Apple Dip

Greek Yogurt Peanut Butter Apple Dip

I have seen this recipe several times on Pinterest in the past couple of days and there are small differences between each recipe so I thought I would share how I've been making it.  Me and Dane have ate this every night for a week now and it's SO GOOD!  It's pretty healthy compared to other dips and is so addicting that I lick the bowl clean every time.  I took a picture of the dip I made tonight and here's the recipe:

1 cup Greek Vanilla Yogurt (I buy the big tub of Dannon Oikos Fat Free Greek Yogurt)
2 TBS Peanut Butter (Smooth, and sometimes I put a tiny bit more PB in than I'm supposed to)
1 TBS Honey
A dash of cinnamon

Mix together and serve with apples, bananas, or whatever you want!

DIY Travel Journal Smash Book Gift Idea for a Graduate

DIY Gift for a Graduate:  Travel Journal Smash Book

My future sister-in-law Tara is graduating from LCU this weekend and I wanted to just give her a little something for the occasion.  I bought a dollar tree composition notebook and just went crazy!  I didn't do a step by step tutorial for it but basically I took a map from the computer of Lubbock where her and my brother met and are going to live.  I painted it with tea to give it that fun aged look.  I stamped a heart in the place where they met for a fun little detail since they are getting married very very soon.  I decoupaged that on the front and then did the rest of the back and insides in brown wrapping paper also from dollar tree.  I ordered some fun travel stickers from Hobby Lobby that all matched the same colors and also some pockets for their tickets and other small souvenirs.  I hot glued fun ribbon to the binding and for a tie to keep it closed.  I also painted a border all around just to add some more interest.  I put their names in the front with my Cricut and that's about it.  Me and Dane have one and we take it on trips and write in it and tape tons of stuff in it.  I love to look at it every once in a while.  It's a great gift for a grad either from high school or college.

I just painted some tea from the fridge right onto the white pages and let them dry completely.  Very simple and looks neat.

I usually crinkle up paper before I decoupage it onto something if it doesn't matter if it looks a little messy.  I like the texture it creates.

Here's a close up of the heart I stamped on the campus of LCU where I am pretty sure they met for the first time.

The final product-the front cover...that ribbon is so cute!  Why didn't I buy more??

My Cricut is so wonderful!

Thank You Notes from Cole Man

At the request of my mom, here are all of Cole's thank you notes that were sent out to everyone.  She wanted to see all of his goodies from his birthday.  Thanks again to everyone!  He had a memorable birthday with all of you and we are very grateful!
A great Sunday outfit from Lara and Derek and the girls...and soon to be a boy too!  Yay!
Cole loves his car from Gabby and Papa G.  His new favorite thing to do is stand up while we are going....little dare devil!

I love my bicycle from Nonna and Grandpa and I can't even reach the petals yet.  Who needs that when you have mom to push you all day.

Thanks for the PJS Denise and Martin.  They are super comfy!  I love my books too!

Aunt Donna I love the books and clothes...I wore them last Sunday!

I love how it tells him "I love you!"  Thanks Scott and Amy!

He loves throwing now and he really like that Lego base...he drags it everywhere.

Thank you Kylie, Kevin, and the boys for my cars and bible.  I love them!

I love my tent and tunnel.  I really like it when mommy and daddy try to get in it with me.  Thanks Meme and Papa!

He already knows there is something good about that green paper!  Thanks Nana and Papa!  We had to take it before he ate it or tore it up.  We promise he'll get something he wants with it!

All About Me

Hello!  My name is Deonna and I am a stay-at-home mom with a wonderful husband, Dane, and a precious baby boy, Cole.  We live in Texas where my husband is a state trooper.  I was a teacher for a few years and hope to go back to that someday when the kids are in school.  I love my wonderful church, to blog, and to craft.  I am learning to sew and that has been very fun and frustrating all at once.  I just love to take what I do everyday and share it with every one.  I would love for you to follow my blog and my boards on Pinterest.  I am always adding to my boards and try to blog twice a week.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon!
